School News: At the end of July comes August, and students knew what that meant. It was time to get their backpacks and wake up on the brink of dawn to get to school and catch up with friends. More importantly, to get back to school and learn; but, Blackhawks can’t forget about the very informative fireside chats that reminded them of what they needed to accomplish through their entire high school careers.
Local News: A solar eclipse brought a lot of hype and excitement to the desert. While everyone was fighting over where to get really cool eclipse glasses, the Palm Desert Public Library was holding an event for youth and adults. On Aug. 16, kids made eclipse boxes and Dr. Stephenie Slahor led a discussion on lunar and solar eclipses for all the adults who decided to attend.
National News: Hurricane Harvey struck Houston, Texas on Aug. 13, inflicting nearly $200 billion worth of damage. At least five deaths and more than a dozen injuries have been reported in the aftermath.
International News: North Korea fired a missile over Japan in an attempt to show the U.S. their firepower. Even though the missile completed its journey, the missile landed in the ocean 1,700 miles away, causing no harm to the island.
