A lot to look forward to with Kirby and the Forgotten Land

In September 2022, Nintendo released a direct showcasing of a bunch of upcoming games for the Nintendo Switch. It’s nearing the end of the direct, they have one last thing to show.

It first showcased the inside of an abandoned mall, overgrown with grass and trees. Then a shot of the city from the outside, fully enveloped by nature as well. The screen then fades to black, soon to reveal a shot of an island with a familiar pink puffball washed up on its shores.

This was the announcement of a new Kirby game coming to Nintendo Switch, “Kirby and the Forgotten Land.” In this game, Kirby takes a jump into 3D, exploring a mysterious world rampant with creatures from an organization called the “Beast Pack.”  The Beast Pack is capturing Waddle Dees and it’s up to Kirby, Bandana Waddle Dee, and a new friend named “Elfilin” to stop them.

The game has a hub called “Waddle Dee Town,” where players can take a break from their adventures and play fun minigames, which includes fishing or helping out at a restaurant. The more Waddle Dee’s that are saved, the more of the town will grow, as more features become available to them.

A colosseum is available as well, taking players through a gauntlet of bosses and facing off familiar foes along the way.

There are also new copy abilities available, like Drill and Ranger. The Drill ability lets players dig underground and surprise enemies by jumping out right under them. Ranger lets players wield a pistol as they shoot enemies at a distance. Players can also pick up blueprints that allow them to upgrade existing copy abilities to become more powerful.

That was most of the information we’ve known about the game since the Nintendo Direct on February 9, 2022. The Direct gave a look at a new mechanic coming to Kirby, that being Mouthful Mode.

Mouthful Mode allows Kirby to inhale objects twice as big as him and gives him new abilities depending on what object he inhales. Kirby is capable of inhaling objects like cars to run things over, to traffic cones that can pierce through pipes.

With all the new content coming to this game, fans are certainly hyped for its release on March 25, 2022.

From exploring an abandoned city and rescuing Waddle Dees to spending time at the Waddle Dee Town for a break, there’s a lot to look forward to in Kirby’s newest game.
