ASB leaders welcome students back to campus
Led by student leaders, KyLee Borgen ’22 and Christina Morcus ’22, ASB intends to build a heartening culture to welcome back students at La Quinta High School.
After a year and a half, the students at La Quinta High are returning to being full-time students largely due to COVID-19. ASB intends to build a heartening culture to welcome back students at La Quinta High School.
KyLee Borgen ‘22 and Christina Morcus ‘22 plan to restore the positive culture the school had before COVID-19. The ASB leaders plan to have as many activities in person as possible seeing as the school missed out on opportunities while the students were virtual.
“I hope to get as many kids as I can to be positive, to be happy to be here, and to enjoy their experience. High school goes by fast, so being able to get people to enjoy it will be the best thing to do,” Borgen said.
Once a week, every Tuesday, ASB holds business meetings where the department considers activity requests, purchase requests, and agendas for the week. ASB discusses and goes over the fundraiser committee and spirit committee.
“We approve activities going around the school, different clubs and different purchases that people are doing. Then other days, we are either making posters, planning upcoming events, upcoming dances like different rallies we have in for ideas,” Borgen said.
Borgen has always been a part of leadership ever since elementary school. She enjoys getting other people involved and believes she is good at being a leader.
This school year, Morcus, the vice president, hopes to accomplish planning more rallies this year and overall increase the school spirit at other sport events.
Morcus has experienced being a leader since last year. She describes her leadership as uplifting and encouraging.
“I love ASB!” she said. “In my opinion, it’s the heart and spirit of the campus. You get to plan all of the events and just overall, you’re so involved with everything that goes on with the school.”
Her dream for student body is to build a culture of inclusivity and to have everyone at La Quinta High feel a part of the school, welcomed, and a part of the family. Morcus strives to motivate others by helping them set and remember people’s goals. She seeks to be a positive example and work with each other rather than a dictator.
“I try to lead others through examples and inspire others through encouragement,” said Morcus.
ASB is casting La Quinta’s school spirit after learning on Zoom and welcoming back positive culture in hopes to make student lives back to the way it was before the pandemic.
