The PSC-MOAA awards luncheon took place on Nov. 18 at the Classic Club. This ceremony was hosted to honor and reward the staff and cadets of AFJROTC.

Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) leadership awards honored Melia Fabriquer ’23 and retroactively honored Cindy Zamora for her excellence last school year.

Joseph Taylor, a USAF (Ret), Lt. Col., said, “The ceremony is important because it gives us a chance to show the cadets that we have that have strong leadership and give them an award to show the world of their leadership abilities.”

In an email, Taylor noted that Amanda Kaye was also worthy of being honored, but was limited to selecting two students. However, “she was there to command the color guard and present the flag,” he wrote.

Taylor added that not only is Fabriquer one of their strongest juniors, but she is able to balance her time to ensure she maintains her fitness and academic responsibilities.

“I was just really happy that all my hard work paid off,” said Fabriquer,” and that what I did to the court was beneficial, not only to me but to the court.”

During her freshman year, Fabriquer organized a clothing drive to help raise money for ROTC and to donate a portion to it and clothing to Angel View.

“I feel like I have a strong leadership position amongst the court, so younger cadets can use me as a guide,” Fabriquer said.

“At the same time, I don’t think I deserve it, I don’t want to seem conceited about it, but also I think everything I have done and been doing is really beneficial for the court,” she said, “and for that I am grateful. If it comes with an award, then it comes with one.”
