A statement of solidarity with AAPI communities
We, at the Hawkview editorial board, stand with AAPI communities against anti-AAPI racism and hate and commit ourselves to positive change and coverage.
On March 16, 2021, six Asian American women were killed in their places of work in Atlanta, Georgia. Violence and prejudice against Asian Americans have always existed in this country, but since 2019, anti-Asian hate crimes have risen by 149%.
The Hawkview stands with the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community during this surge of anti-Asian violence, and condemns the growing xenophobia, white supremacy and prejudice, as students and journalists.
As a publication, we are committed to diversifying our newsroom and coverage of issues as they affect local communities, of which the recent hate crimes against Asian Americans must be included. We also promise to uplift the voices and stories of members of the AAPI community.
