There may be a Hippo on this Campus
March 26, 2019
The band Hippo Campus is an electro-indie band that originated in Twin Cities, Minneapolis in 2013. The band consists of lead singer Jake Luppen, co-frontman and guitarist Nathan Stocker, bassist Zach Sutton, and drummer Whistler Allet, and go by the stage names Stitches, Beans, Espo, and Turntan, respectively. Hippo Campus is an upbeat, and Jake and Nathan’s beautiful strumming of the guitar add just enough soulful feeling.
If you aren’t already a fan, just listen to the song “Way it Goes” on the album Landmark. At 2:01 the guitar solo is mesmerizing. This song is perfect when you’re needing the energy to power through getting ready or cleaning. Jake’s voice in this song is great and the lyrics are so thick with meaning, and is especially relatable to teenagers.
The song “Bambi” is an especially great tune for homework time as it’s not too distracting, but also has the right tempo to keep motivations high while Blackhawks power through IB workloads.
