The LQHS girls’ water polo team played in a tournament this recent weekend placing first with a three-way tie. The team is currently undefeated with only one loss from a tournament this year. Mikka Vonscherr (‘19) offers insight to the team’s success, saying the team expects to “win DEL and strive to make it to CIF as well.” Ariana Alvarez (‘19) says this year’s group of athletes “have a lot more confidence and shoot without any hesitation,” which has so far proven to be an advantage.

Another reason for the team’s success? The team does not rely on any one person as every player is puts in the work and has their own unique skill they bring to the team. Alvarez says that “if someone is ejected from a game, we don’t worry because we know that the next player in can hold their own. There’s nothing stopping us from winning DEL and CIF.” And, “Right now, the girls are ranked number 1 in Division 4 CIF.  In the past they have always been the underdogs so this is a big accomplishment because the other teams didn’t expect them to strive. The girls look forward to this season and what’s to come.” Says Alvarez (‘19).

Congratulations to Varsity captain Savannah Hampton (‘19), a 4-year varsity starter, was recently nominated for Athlete of the Week by the Desert Sun
