La Quinta High School’s key to fashion and charity

Key Club members worked together to create their biggest event of the year. LQHS welcomed the eighth annual Key Club Fashion Show and Silent Auction on May 11. The club collaborated with local stores to promote the Eliminate Project, which works for the eradication of maternal tetanus, as well as the Pediatric Trauma Program, which aims to reduce accident trauma in children. Donations were accepted for these charities, while profits made from this event will assist the club in continuing to provide service in the community.

The fashion show was emceed by Mr. Daniel Leon, who is the counseling office specialist. Models of all grades sported clothing from shops like Men’s Wearhouse, Gina’s Boutique, and La Estrella.

The stage was open to performers to show their talents to the audience, featuring impressive vocal and dance performances, and a unique dramatic monologue, from students. This year offered something special: a “Blackhawk Section.” In this segment, students were able to create their own outfits to express their unique style down the runway.

“This year turned out to be a huge success,” stated President Thao Nguyen ‘18. “We raised more money and had a better turnout compared to last year. I’m really proud of my board and the rest of my members. Everyone came together in the end and the whole night was a success! I’m excited to see how next year’s board will continue on improving the event.”
