Girls’ Soccer Team on a Winning Streak

The girls’ varsity soccer team at La Quinta High is beating local high schools a big margin this school year, as they are currently on a winning streak this DVL season with a total of seven wins and zero losses. The girls’ soccer team has two DVL games left this season. Their next home game is this Thursday on Jan. 25 against Shadow Hills at 5:30 p.m.

Team Captains Tatiana Woodworth ‘18 and Nicole Bayler ‘18 have led their team to victory this past season. So far, the team has played four out of nine DVL games and have won every single one.

On Jan. 11, the LQ Lady Blackhawks played their fifth DVL game and defeated the Cathedral City Lions by a score of 6-1. Monica Calderon ‘19 scored with the first hat trick of the season. “They were supposedly our biggest rival, but we won the game effortlessly,” said Brisa Gonzalez ‘19, who is a center midfielder.

On Jan. 9, the team played their fourth DVL game of the season against Xavier. They ended the game and won 4-2. At the beginning of the match, it started to rain; so, both teams were struggling to run their fastest and control the ball. During the first half of the game, Xavier had the upper hand with a score of 2-0, but LQ tied the game and took the win, ending the game with a score of 4-2.

“Everyone has worked really hard to get where we are now,” said Gonzalez.
