National News: President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, plead guilty to lying to the FBI about two conversations he had last December with Russian ambassador, Sergey I. Kislyak. These conversations, with the help of Trump’s aides, were an attempt to create foreign policy with Russia prior to the Trump presidency.
International News: On Dec. 5, the International Olympic Committee announced that Russia would be banned from the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea due to manipulating anti-doping rules in the games. The ban resulted from a 17-month investigation by the former Swedish president Samuel Schmid, who investigated whether or not the Russian government covered up the doping of Russian athletes during the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. Russian athletes can still participate in the event if they prove that they’re “clean.”
