Choir Sings For the Holidays

On Dec. 14, 2017, LQHS’ choir sang 20 songs for the holiday season, ranging from classic Christmas songs to Hannukah hymns. The choir practiced nearly every day since their last concert on Nov. 3.

One of the most impressive songs performed was “White Winter Hymnal,” in which five of the singers sat in chairs with the rest of the choir scattered around them, considered “body percussionists” by Scharf, the choir teacher. “We each estimated [practice to be] about three to four days of one hour or less,” said Robert Rios ‘19.

Many of the choir students claimed “One Candle,” which was the very last song of the concert, was their favorite song to perform. The audience responded with standing ovations.

During the “One Candle” performance, all of the performers joined together on stage as well as the perimeter of the room holding a candle. The entire room was illuminated by the dim lights emitting from the candles after the choir students took turns lighting each others’ candles. “The fact that it was dark with each of us holding a candle made it feel very meaningful to me and the parents watching,” Rios added.
