Boys’ Basketball Recovers Footing Early In Season

The LQHS boys’ basketball team has a home conference game against the Palm Springs Indians on Dec. 12.

On Dec. 7, LQ went on to win a close match against the Beaumont Cougars in a home non-conference game with a score of 57-53. Despite struggling during the second quarter with a close score of 19-13, LQ succeeded in gaining the lead during the last quarter — concluding the match with a victory.

Following a slew of mishaps at the beginning of preseason due to three consecutive game losses, the boys managed to recover their footing to salvage their place as one of the principal players in DVL. With a new roster, consisting of veteran players and promising new blood, as well as the loss of DVL league MVP Pierce Sterling ‘19, the team has a lot to prove this upcoming season.

On Dec. 4, LQ won their home non-conference game against the Coachella Valley Arabs with a score of 67-31. Michael Powell ‘20 and Jacob Conradi ‘18 led the team, scoring 16 and 11 points, respectively.

With the score margin so wide, the entire thirteen man roster was put into play, showcasing the new talent. At 6’8” and 205 pounds, Joshua Wallace ‘20 towered over opponents and teammates alike, scoring six points and getting one steal. “We’re definitely getting back on track,” said Wallace. “Our team is really good this year.”
