Houston Astros’ Jose Altuve is lifted by teammates after Game 7 of baseball’s American League Championship Series against the New York Yankees in Houston.

The result of the World Series saw the Houston Astros win their first World Series game in franchise history. Game 6 on Oct. 31 saw the Dodgers win 3-1, with Chris Taylor and Corey Seager scoring and Joc Pederson hitting a home run to score the third run. Game 7 on Nov. 1, the final World Series game, saw the Astros locking the score early in the first and second innings. With the Dodgers unable to catch up, the Astros took the final game 5-1.

Prior to Game 6 and 7, the Series had taken place in Houston for Games 3 and 4. On Oct. 27, the Astros continued their winning streak in Game 3 with a 5-3 win. The streak was short-lived though as the Dodgers returned by winning Game 4 on Oct. 28 with a score of 6-2. Dodgers pitcher Alex Wood allowed no hits through the fifth inning. Game 5 once again broke baseball history on Oct. 29 with even more home runs than Game 2. With a constantly tense and exciting game, the Astros managed to pull out with a 13-12 walk-off win in extra innings.

The first two games of the World Series took place at Dodgers Stadium on Oct. 24 and 25. The first pitch of Game 1 started off exciting with Dodgers player Chris Taylor hitting a home run. The sixth inning saw another home run for the Dodgers player Justin Turner with Taylor on base. In the end, the Dodgers won Game 1 against the Astros, 3-1. Game 2 made history as for the first time, as eight home runs were made, the most in a single World Series game. In the tense last few innings of the game, the Astros managed to hit the eighth and final home run, giving them the 7-6 win and making it the first time the Astros had won a World Series game in its franchise history.

Before the start of the World Series, the National and American Wild Cards games took place. The first two games on Oct. 9 were the Boston Red Sox vs. the Houston Astros, following the Diamondbacks vs. Los Angeles Dodgers; the Astros won 5-4, while the Dodgers won 3-1. The final two games, the Chicago Cubs vs. the Washington Nationals and the Yankees vs. the Cleveland Indians, saw the Cubs winning 9-8 and the Yankees winning 5-2.

The League Championship Series pitted the winning National and American league teams against each other for the last time before the World Series. The first game on Oct. 19 saw the Cubs vs. Dodgers with the Dodgers beating the Cubs 11-1, making it the first time the Dodgers had entered the World Series since 1988. In the second and final game on Oct. 21, the Yankees vs. Astros, the Astros won 4-0.
