Mr. Duke

Mr. Jim Duke, LQHS’ librarian for the past 16 years, has retired. He also worked as a teacher within his 38 years of experience in education overall. While retired, Duke will continue to be the announcer of the Blackhawk football team and will continue to get involved in school events. He plans to spend more time traveling; Duke remarked, “I’ve been on 72 cruises in my life, so there are many more of those to come!” LQ will miss this “Quintessential Blackhawk,” who attended almost every school event. He said that the students were the reason why he came to school every day, fondly noting a story in which he helped a student win a prize by telling the answer to the question, “Who was the 25th President?” Duke hopes that he was able to accomplish his goal of being a hero to someone. He added, “Whether it was words of encouragement or advice that I could share or just listening to a student rant, I’d like to think I made a difference in the lives of everyone who [..] took the time to get to know me.” He encourages anyone to keep in contact with him through Twitter, Instagram or Facebook, as Duke is still in contact with some of his very first students.
